Jose Pinera

Jose Pinera is a senior distinguished fellow of the Cato Institute, and founder and president of the International Center for Pension Reform. He holds an M.A. and a Ph.D. in economics from Harvard University (USA). As Chile's minister of labor and social security from 1978 to 1980, and of mining in 1981, he was responsible for three key structural reforms: the privatization of the pension system, the labor law, and the restoration of private property rights in mining.
His pioneering work on pension reform has contributed to the adoption of the "Chilean model" - or similar models - in more than 30 countries.
